THE IMPORTANCE OF NFT METADATA STANDARDS

It is fantastic to see the growth of NFT projects, creators, collectors and artists on the Songbird blockchain and in anticipation of Flare network.

With this in mind, it is imperative that the NFT community is aware and mindful of NFT metadata standards, and why these are important.

EIP — The NFT Industry Standard

The EIP standards provide an industry standard, which is important in ensuring cross-chain interoperability of EVM blockchains. This maintains a certain quality, which should be maintained by all businesses, dApps and projects building on any EVM blockchain.

Sparkles provides guidance to the NFT community on the importance of official standards

At a basic level, official EIP metadata standards are available for ERC-721 and ERC-1155 NFTs.

Sparkles takes proper industry standards extremely seriously and, as such, has produced a guide for the community on NFT metadata standards.

Why are EIP metadata standards important?

Following the EIP metadata standards is important as they ensure the integrity of NFT metadata structure.

Failure to follow the official EIP metadata standards means that:

· NFTs are likely not cross-chain compatible with other EVM blockchains (e.g., Songbird, Flare, Ethereum, Polygon and Avalanche);

· NFTs are not cross-marketplace compatible with other marketplaces which follow the EIP standards (e.g., Sparkles, OpenSea, LooksRare and Rarible); and

· Serious NFT collectors who review metadata will be discouraged from purchasing NFTs with metadata which does not adhere to the proper standards.

As such, a truly cross-chain interoperable future can only emerge if businesses and projects keep blockchain industry standards in mind.

Sparkles encourages all community members who are interested in NFTs to take the time to review the guides we produce to help keep everything up to standard

Thank you to everyone who is building and supporting Songbird and Flare.✨
